What are the symptoms of pH imbalance?

Signs your pH is not in balance include changes in odor, itching, discharge and possible burning when you urinate. If you’re experiencing them consistently, we strongly recommend seeing and consulting with a healthcare provider.

How does Boquet treat and prevent odor?

Boquet vaginal prebiotics prevents the growth of odor causing bacteria (gardnerella vaginalis). An overgrowth of gardnerella vaginalis produces enzymes that break down peptides to amines which have a fishy odor. Boquet makes the vaginal flora inhospitable for gardnerella vaginalis by stimulating natural lactic acid production by promoting the growth of lactobacillus.

    What is Bacterial Vaginosis?

Bacterial vaginosis is the most common form of vaginal imbalance affecting as many as 1 in 3 people in the U.S. between the age of 14 to 49.  It is associated with low lactobacillus levels and an overgrowth of gardnerella vaginalis. It is often undiagnosed and can have no symptoms. The most common symptoms are abnormal vaginal discharge, itching, or odor. Boquet promotes the growth of our beneficial bacteria, lactobacillus, which displaces gardnerella vaginalis, reducing their adhesion to the vaginal flora.

    How common are vaginal imbalances?

Vaginal pH can increase around menstruation due to hormone fluctuations and sometimes during intercourse. The causes are not due to poor hygiene and it is not a sexually transmitted infection. Some risk factors include scented soaps, douching, stress and smoking.

Does Boquet help with Yeast Infections?

Although we have seen many people have less yeast infections by prioritizing lactobacillus, there is less of a correlation between yeast and lactobacillus. If you have a yeast infection it is important to treat it with appropriate antifungals. Boquet can be used afterwards but may not be as effective as preventing yeast infections than it is at preventing bacterial vaginosis.

How long does it take Boquet to dissolve?

Typically, it dissolves within a few hours overnight but it can take longer. Remember you can break the tablet and use half if you want it to dissolve faster.

Is it normal to have white powdery clumps and a powdery discharge?

Yes that is perfectly normal. How quickly our suppositories dissolve can vary depending on the phase of our menstrual cycle. (Think - moisture levels, body temperature.) You can break the tablet and use half if you want it to dissolve faster.

    Prebiotic vs Probiotic?

While probiotics offer undeniable benefits, prebiotics provide a more immediate and convenient solution. Unlike probiotics that require daily consumption for bacterial strains to adhere, prebiotics are able to work quickly by feeding the beneficial bacteria already present in our vaginal flora.

    Are Boquet prebiotics FDA approved?

Because Boquet prebiotics are not a drug, it does not require FDA approval. However lactose, Boquet’s main ingredient, is a component of many FDA approved medications.

    Are there any side effects?

The only reported side effect is a slight discharge of the tablet residue. Do not use Boquet’s vaginal prebiotics if you have an allergy to milk. Boquet vaginal prebiotics can be safely used in people with dietary lactose intolerance as it is not ingested orally and does not get digested.
